The Repository Ranking published since 2008 with two editions available usually in late January and July. To be considered, the repositories must have their own domain or subdomain, and include at least peer-reviewed articles (services that contain only files, databases or learning objects are not included in the ranking).

In January 2011, published a list containing 1121 repositories worldwide, forming the current web ranking. Note that the "Ranking of World Repositories Web is an initiative of the Cybermetrics Lab, which belongs to the CSIC, the National Research Center of Spain.
